Newspoem 31 January 1996: Los Angeles

Beneath this concrete double helix
I admire the development
That has brought the touch of elegance to my districts.

In cologne and silk
And fine leather hunting gear
Whose fine craftsmanship would mesmerize
Rabbits.

Shoveling the renovation
Of the twisted wreckage of the village
A villager with a tie of links
Who eyes the applecore by the side of the boulevard
And eyes the guard
And eyes the applecore by the side of the boulevard.

The drumming is getting louder than the tinkling of ice in the glasses.
